Welcome to Shiver Elementary School for the 2016-2017 school year. The faculty and staff are looking forward to a great year for both you and your child. This year’s school-wide theme is, “Peace, Love, and Learning: Peace in our School, Love for each other, and Learning to Exceed!” There are no limits to what your child can accomplish if they work hard to achieve. It is our job as administrators, teachers and parents to facilitate their success. It is important to all stakeholders at our school that we create an atmosphere where students exceed in learning while developing bonds of friendship and a sense of community that will last a lifetime.

We will offer your child the best academic environment possible. Our goal for each student is for them to not only meet academic goals, but to exceed those goals. We strive to produce students that will be productive citizens who have a desire to go above and beyond in everything they do. Students at Shiver School will be recognized for their outstanding achievements and positive behavior. They will also be recognized for their physical abilities by the Physical Education Department and reading achievements through our Accelerated Reader Awards system.

Shiver Elementary will be welcoming three new faculty members this year. Mrs. Brooke Pollock will be transferring from Pelham City Middle School and will be teaching seventh grade English/Language Arts. Mrs. Pollock brings 11 years of experience to our staff, as well as Gifted Certification and a Master’s Degree in Foundations and Education. Mrs. Jenna John will begin her first year teaching as a fifth grade English/Language Arts teacher. Mrs. John earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and furthered her academic career by completing her Master of Arts Degree in Teaching. Miss Ashley Knight will be joining the Shiver family as a Pre-K teacher. Miss Knight graduated Thomas College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. This will be Miss Knight’s first year in the teaching field. Ms. Betsy McPherson will join the Shiver team as our new Speech Teacher. Ms. McPherson will add 27 years of teaching experience to our knowledgeable staff. She comes to us from Cox Elementary School in Moultrie, Georgia. There are several faculty members who will be taking on exciting new challenges in different positions for the 16-17 school year: Mrs. Amber Humphries will be teaching first grade; Mrs. Shelia Cannington will be teaching 2nd grade; and Mrs. Gloria Humphries will be teaching fifth grade. We look forward to welcoming all of our new faculty members to our Shiver family.

We anticipate the opening of school with excitement. We are grateful for the opportunity to teach the children of Grady County as we embark on a year full of “Peace, Love, and Learning”! We hope to see you at Open House on Wednesday, July 27th, from 4-6 p.m.

Sincerely,

Todd Jones
