Growing Strong Hearts and Minds – One Child at a Time!

The 2019-2020 school year is upon us, and at Shiver Elementary School, we are excited to start the year with a GROWTH MINDSET!  This year’s school-wide theme is, “Growing Strong Hearts and Minds – One Child at a Time.”  We look forward to a very special year for our students, parents, teachers, and all stakeholders who make up our Shiver School family as we each set our sights on growing strong hearts and minds in our most valued Shiver family members, our students!

Based on research, we believe that teaching positive character traits improves student outlook, behavior, and academic performance. At Shiver School, we foster an atmosphere of support, love, and perseverance and truly feel that our 2019-2020 school theme embodies our shared desire of positive personal and academic growth for our students.  It is important to all stakeholders at our school that we create an atmosphere where students exceed in learning while developing bonds of friendship and a sense of community that will last a lifetime.  We strive to provide for our children not only the best academic environment possible but also a safe place where faculty, staff, and students sow seeds of kindness, love, trust, respect, empathy, perseverance and other honorable character traits.  We strive to have our students see in us, as administrators, and as a faculty/staff, those same honorable qualities we value in others.

Growing our students into adults with a positive outlook towards others, our community, and our country will ensure a better future for Grady County and beyond!  We strive to “grow” our students into productive citizens who have a desire to go above and beyond in everything they do. Students at Shiver School will be recognized for their outstanding achievements in academic and exploratory classes, as well as their commitment to positive behavior.

We will be welcoming three new staff members to our Shiver Family this year. Taking on new roles as paraprofessionals at Shiver School are Ms. Heather Cooke, Mrs. Renee Daughtry, and Mrs. Lesley Hurst.  Ms. Cooke is a former Shiver Bulldog and is currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.  She will be assisting in our Physical Education Department.  Mrs. Renee Daughtry served as a long-term substitute as a Kindergarten paraprofessional during the 2018-2019 school year and will return to Shiver in the same position as a full-time employee.  Mrs. Lesley Hurst will join our Shiver Family with prior experience working in an educational setting and will serve as a Special Education paraprofessional in our early elementary grades.

Minimal moves in faculty and staff are taking place for the 2019-2020 school year.  Mrs. Charisha Cooper, a Shiver Paraprofessional, will be moving from her position working with Special Education students to a newly acquired position focusing on the implementation of typing skills for early elementary learners.  Mrs. Cile Teehee will be moving from 7th grade Social Studies to join our 8th grade team as the 8th grade Social Studies teacher.

As always, we anticipate the opening of school with a renewed sense of excitement. We are grateful for the opportunity to teach the children of Grady County as we strive to “Grow Strong Hearts and Minds One Student at a Time” during the 2019-2020 school year and beyond!  We look forward to seeing you at Open House on Thursday, August 1st, from 4-6 p.m.  Please make note that there will be a mandatory meeting for parents of upcoming 6th graders at 4 p.m. in the auditorium.  Pre-K parents will also meet at 4 p.m. for a mandatory orientation in the school cafeteria.  Again, we look forward to the 2019-2020 school year!  SIT BACK AND WATCH US GROW!!!!
