Before we know it, the long days of summer will be here. Even though leisure time activities start to take precedence over academic endeavors, we would like to encourage you to keep reading high on your child’s list of summer activities. It really is true that readers are leaders. Just like other skills your children are learning, such as how to hit a baseball or play the piano, reading needs to be practiced every day to maintain and strengthen skills.
Shiver elementary School is about to embark on a school-wide book drive unlike any other! Starting on 4/15/2024, the school will launch their Books Are Bun Book Blast. This literacy initiative helps our students build their home libraries while also helping the school to get more books and school supplies. No matter what, this program ensures all the students at the school will take home at least one new, fun, age-appropriate book for their home libraries. However, with the help of the community, friends, and family, students can earn up to 10 books!

¡La escuela primaria Shiver está a punto de embarcarse en una campaña de recolección de libros como ninguna otra! A partir del 15/04/2024, la escuela lanzará su Books Are Bun Book Blast. Esta iniciativa de alfabetización ayuda a nuestros estudiantes a construir sus bibliotecas en casa y al mismo tiempo ayuda a la escuela a obtener más libros y útiles escolares. Pase lo que pase, este programa garantiza que todos los estudiantes de la escuela se llevarán a casa al menos un libro nuevo, divertido y apropiado para su edad para la biblioteca de su hogar. Sin embargo, con la ayuda de la comunidad, amigos y familiares, ¡los estudiantes pueden ganar hasta 10 libros!

Shiver Pre-K and Kindergarten classes were excited to have special visitor Moo-Moo the Cow from Johnson Dairy in Cairo. Mrs. Scarbrough read them the book “Out and About at the Dairy Farm”. The students learned all about how milk goes from the cow to the coolers to the processing plants to be turned into things such as the milk they drink and the ice cream they love to eat. Moo-Moo talked to the students about her daily life on the farm and answered many questions. Thank You Moo-Moo and Johnson Dairy for coming to share with us today!
